City of Lost Luggage

LAX Airport

Chrystala Goes to Hollywood...and puts LAX back in RELAX!

It’s no secret…I love Los Angeles. And while some refer to L.A. as the "City of Lost Angels”, I prefer to call it the "City of Lost Luggage”. Why? Because back in July, while taking a direct flight from YVR to LAX, my luggage mysteriously “disappeared”. My reaction? Relax. After all, what good would getting mad do? So, instead of the saga of the lost suitcase ruining a perfectly great holiday, I decided to simply go with the flow. Besides, loads of people arrive in Hollywood every day with nothing but their dreams! If you can’t beat ‘em...

In fact, with or without luggage, I had so much fun I thought I’d share my TOP FIVE TRAVEL TIPS while in the Greater Los Angeles area!

LYFT - While not legalized in many parts of Canada, transit alternatives such as UBER and LYFT have taken off in the United States. Want to get around the City but are leary of transit? LYFT is similar to UBER only better. Get the APP for your phone and travel faster around Los Angeles than transit and cheaper than a taxi! Have fun!

TCL Chinese Theatre

TCL CHINESE THEATRE IMAX - The iconic Grouman’s Chinese Theatre was revamped and renamed the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX back in 2013. But the legacy of this amazing theatre goes far beyond it’s massive new IMAX screen. At its grand entrance are dozens of hand and footprints of stars of yesterday, today and beyond! Whether you take the VIP Tour or relax in the nearly 2,000 seat theatre watching your favourite film, this L.A. landmark takes the theatrical experience to a whole new level!

Pono Burgers

PONO BURGER - Located in the heart of Santa Monica, this fun burger joint boasts organic, grass-fed beef burgers, [yam] fries, shakes, handcrafted lemonades & beer in a funky counter-serve spot with a patio. Induldge yourself at Pono and, who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky [like me!] and be seated next to Suzanne Somers and her husband, Alan Hamel (also a Canadian)!

Amoeba Music

AMOEBA MUSIC - By far, THE best music store ever! Whether you’re a serious collector or simply looking for something new, Amoeba Music is your “one stop shop” in Los Angeles. Their stock ranges from CDs, vinyl, books, cassettes, t-shirts, and even 8-tracks! They carry Imports, exports and everything in between - just make sure you put enough of your day aside to spend here because it’s easy to lose track of time.

LARRY EDMUNDS BOOKSHOP - This incredible bookshop has everything - original TV and movie scripts, books, movie posters, every piece of Hollywood memorabilia imaginable and so much more! Located near the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX, this is by far THE best bookstore in town! Like Amoeba Music, make sure you give yourself enough time to check out all the merchandise because it’s easy to spend hours here (but it’s SO worth it!).
